National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar

NID Gandhinagar is one of the earliest National Institute of Design campuses established outside the flagship Ahmedabad location, set up in Gujarat's capital city to expand NID-quality design education within the state. Operating under the NID Act 2014 with Institute of National Importance status, the campus offers B.Des and M.Des programmes through NID DAT admission.

The campus offers specialisations in Product Design, Communication Design, and the distinctive Toy Design programme. The Toy Design specialisation is one of the few such programmes available at any design school in India and connects directly to India's large toy manufacturing sector, the country's craft toy traditions (Channapatna, wooden toys of Rajasthan, Kondapalli toys of Andhra Pradesh), and contemporary game and play design industries. Students benefit from Gujarat's extraordinarily rich craft ecology: the state is home to Kutch embroidery, Bandhani and Patola textiles, Rogan art, and numerous pottery and metalwork traditions that provide direct research and collaboration opportunities for design students.

Proximity to the Ahmedabad design cluster gives NID Gandhinagar students access to industry exposure, guest faculty, and institutional resources. Product design and communication design students benefit from Gujarat's strong manufacturing base and the growing consumer product industry. The campus feeds into NID's national placement network, connecting graduates with product companies, design consultancies, and creative industries across India.
