Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune

Symbiosis Institute of Design was established in 2004 as part of Symbiosis International University, one of Pune's largest and most recognised private university groups. The institute was founded with the aim of creating a professional design education institution that combined creative training with industry relevance. It has grown steadily since its founding and is now one of the most established private design schools in Maharashtra.

The B.Des curriculum at SID spans four years and is structured around five specialisation tracks: Communication Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Lifestyle Accessory Design. Students choose their specialisation early in the programme and develop deep expertise in their chosen area over four years. Studio practice is central, with project briefs drawn from real industry contexts and interdisciplinary collaboration encouraged across specialisations.

Pune is an exceptional city for design students. It combines manufacturing and engineering industries (automotive, electronics, heavy industry) with a large IT and product software sector, a prominent fashion and retail market, and an active creative industry community. Students at SID regularly engage with Pune's industries through internships, live project briefs, and guest lecture series. The city's large student population also means there is a thriving culture of design events, exhibitions, and competitions throughout the academic year.

Students are encouraged to build portfolios that demonstrate both process thinking and final design outcomes.

Graduates from SID Pune have joined advertising and branding agencies, fashion design studios, product companies, IT firms, digital UX teams, and accessory and jewellery brands across India.
