NID DAT past papers: 2019 to 2024

Past Prelims papers are the single most useful preparation resource for NID DAT. Because NID has no fixed syllabus, working through past papers gives you the best real signal of what question types appear, how visual aptitude is tested, and what GK topics NID cares about. Official papers are available at admissions.nid.edu.

Copyright note: ShapeVerse does not host NID question papers. All papers are available at the official NID portal: admissions.nid.edu. We provide analysis, question type breakdowns, and preparation guidance for each year.

How to use NID past papers effectively

NID past papers are fundamentally different from UCEED or NIFT papers. There is no answer key for drawing questions. The right approach is not to mark yourself right or wrong, but to analyse the demand of each question and assess whether your response shows the right skills.

๐Ÿ”
Analyse question types first

Before attempting a paper, read through all questions. Identify which test visual aptitude, which test GK, which test drawing, and which test reasoning. Map this against our section breakdowns.

โฑ๏ธ
Time yourself accurately

NID Prelims is approximately 3 hours. Attempting under timed conditions is the only way to build the speed and decision-making you need. Use a timer from the first mock attempt.

๐Ÿ“
Review drawing tasks critically

For drawing questions, compare your sketch against the question's demand: did you show accurate proportions? Is the construction logic visible? Could someone identify the object instantly?

๐Ÿ“š
Build a GK miss list

Every GK question you get wrong or guess at becomes a learning target. Keep a running list of topics to research: Indian crafts you did not recognise, designers you had not heard of, design concepts that were new.

Recurring patterns across NID DAT papers (2019-2024)

While NID has no fixed syllabus, certain question categories appear consistently across years. Knowing these patterns helps you allocate preparation time efficiently.

Category Typical share Consistent sub-topics
Visual aptitude ~30% Pattern sequences, spatial relationships, object identification from silhouettes, mirror images
GK: design and art ~25% Indian crafts, design history, iconic products, architecture styles, designers and studios
Drawing tasks ~20% Memory drawing of objects, imaginative compositions, quick sketches
Analytical reasoning ~15% Number/letter series, coding-decoding, analogy, classification
Language/comprehension ~10% English reading passages, vocabulary, grammar

Note: percentages are approximate patterns based on past papers. NID changes the distribution each year. Always prepare all sections.
