Before you start: eligibility checklist

Confirm all five eligibility conditions before beginning your UCEED application. If you do not meet any one of these criteria, your application may be rejected at the verification stage.

1

Education: Class 12 from any board

You must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board, or be appearing in Class 12 in the year of the exam. There is no restriction on board: CBSE, ICSE, state boards, and international boards are all accepted.

2

Stream: no restriction

UCEED is open to candidates from all streams. Science (PCM or PCB), Commerce, and Arts candidates are equally eligible. There is no requirement to have studied Mathematics or Science at Class 12 level.

3

Age: born on or after October 1, 2001 (for UCEED 2026)

For General, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates, the date of birth must be on or after October 1, 2001 for UCEED 2026. SC, ST, and PwD candidates receive a 5-year relaxation, making the cutoff October 1, 1996. The specific age cutoff for UCEED 2027 will be confirmed in the official 2027 information brochure.

4

Attempts: maximum 2 in consecutive years

A candidate may appear in UCEED at most twice, and only in 2 consecutive years. If you appeared in UCEED 2026, you may appear again in UCEED 2027 as your second and final attempt. You cannot appear a third time under any circumstances.

5

Minimum percentage: not required

UCEED does not specify a minimum percentage in Class 12. You are eligible regardless of your Class 12 marks. However, individual institutions accepting the UCEED score may have their own eligibility criteria at the admissions stage.

For the complete and official eligibility rules, including NRI and foreign national eligibility, visit the UCEED eligibility page or download the information brochure from uceed.iitb.ac.in.

UCEED application fee

The application fee is paid online during registration and is non-refundable under all circumstances, including withdrawal of application or failure to appear in the exam.

Category Application fee
General, OBC-NCL, EWS Rs 4,000
Female (all categories) Rs 2,000
SC, ST, PwD Rs 2,000

Fee figures are based on UCEED 2026. The UCEED 2027 fee will be confirmed in the official information brochure at uceed.iitb.ac.in. Fee is paid online via credit card, debit card, or net banking only. There is no offline payment option.

Female candidate fee concession

Female candidates receive the Rs 2,000 fee regardless of their category. A female candidate in the General category pays Rs 2,000, not Rs 4,000. This concession applies across all categories for female applicants.

How to register for UCEED 2027: 7 steps

Follow these steps in order. Do not proceed to a later step before completing the current one, as the portal requires sequential completion. The application portal opens at uceed.iitb.ac.in when registration opens in October 2026.

1

Go to uceed.iitb.ac.in and click Apply Online

Open the official UCEED website and locate the Apply Online link. This link becomes active only after the registration window opens. Bookmark the page before the window opens so you can start promptly. Early submission is always better, as technical issues near the deadline are common.

2

Create a new account using your email and mobile number

Register as a new user with your email address and mobile number. You will receive an OTP on your mobile for verification. Use an email address and mobile number you actively use, as all communications including your admit card will be sent there. Save your login credentials immediately in a secure location.

3

Fill in personal details: name, date of birth, category, and contact information

Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate. Enter your date of birth, gender, category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, or PwD), and complete contact details including your current address. Review every field carefully before proceeding. Errors in name or date of birth can cause problems at the exam centre.

4

Upload photograph, signature, and category certificate

Upload a recent passport-size photograph with a white background in JPG format, between 10 KB and 200 KB in size. Upload your signature scanned on white paper in JPG format, between 4 KB and 30 KB. If you are applying under OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, or PwD category, also upload the relevant valid certificate. Check the exact specifications in the current year's information brochure before uploading, as format and size requirements are occasionally updated.

5

Select exam city preferences (up to 3 cities)

Choose up to 3 exam cities in your order of preference from the available list. IIT Bombay allocates exam centres based on availability in each city. Your first preference is not guaranteed. Select cities you can realistically travel to, not just your ideal location. City allocation is confirmed via your admit card 2 to 3 weeks before the exam.

6

Pay the application fee online

Complete the payment of Rs 4,000 (General/OBC-NCL/EWS) or Rs 2,000 (female candidates, SC, ST, PwD) through the payment gateway using a credit card, debit card, or net banking. The fee is non-refundable. Do not close the browser window mid-payment. If your payment fails, wait a few minutes and try again rather than making multiple payment attempts simultaneously.

7

Download the application confirmation PDF

After successful payment, download the application confirmation PDF immediately. Note your application number in writing. This PDF is your only proof of successful registration. You will need the application number for admit card download, result checking, and any correspondence with IIT Bombay about your application.

Documents checklist for UCEED registration

Gather all documents before you begin the application. Uploading blurry, incorrectly sized, or wrong-format documents is one of the most common reasons applications are flagged during verification. Prepare the following:

Class 10 certificate

Required as proof of date of birth. The name on this certificate must match exactly what you enter in the application form. If your name has changed since Class 10, you will need an affidavit or gazette notification.

Class 12 marksheet or appearing certificate

If you have already passed Class 12, upload your marksheet. If you are currently in Class 12 (appearing candidate), upload an appearing certificate from your school or college on official letterhead confirming you are registered for the Class 12 board examination this year.

Valid photo ID

Aadhaar card, passport, or driving licence are accepted. The ID must be valid at the time of the exam. Student ID cards are not accepted. The name on the ID should match your application.

Passport-size photograph

Recent photograph with a plain white background, facing the camera directly. File format: JPG. File size: 10 KB to 200 KB. The photograph must be recent: do not use an old photograph from school records. Check the exact specifications in the UCEED 2027 information brochure, as requirements can vary by year.

Signature scan

Sign on a plain white sheet of paper with a blue or black pen. Scan or photograph only the signature. File format: JPG. File size: 4 KB to 30 KB. The signature must be consistent with how you will sign at the exam centre.

Category certificate (if applicable)

OBC-NCL candidates need a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate. SC and ST candidates need the relevant caste certificate issued by a competent authority. EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate. PwD candidates need a disability certificate from a government-recognised medical board. All certificates must be valid and issued by the relevant authority. Expired certificates are not accepted.

Common registration mistakes and how to avoid them

These are the six most common errors in UCEED applications. Each one is avoidable with a few minutes of careful checking before you submit.

1

Photograph not meeting size or format requirements

Always check the photograph specifications in the current year's UCEED information brochure before uploading. A photograph that worked for another exam may not meet UCEED specifications. Common issues: wrong file size, wrong background colour, face not properly centred, or old photograph used. Prepare a fresh photograph specifically for UCEED.

2

Wrong category selection

The category you select (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD) determines your fee and your eligibility for reserved seats. This cannot be changed after the correction window closes. If you are OBC-NCL, do not apply as General. If you are EWS, have the income certificate ready before selecting that category.

3

Not saving the application number

Your application number is generated as soon as you create your account. Write it down immediately in multiple places: a notebook, your phone notes, and an email to yourself. Candidates who lose their application number often cannot retrieve their admit card or check their result.

4

Not downloading the confirmation PDF

The application confirmation PDF is the only proof that your application and payment were both successful. Download it immediately after payment, before closing the browser window. Save it in cloud storage as well as on your device.

5

Skipping the correction window

IIT Bombay provides a correction window in December, after the registration period closes. This is your only chance to fix errors in personal details, category, and exam city preferences. Always log back into your application during the correction window and review every field, even if you believe everything is correct.

6

Entering wrong exam city preferences

Exam city allocation is final after the correction window closes. Only select cities you can actually travel to for the exam in January. Do not pick a city simply because it is the closest to a preferred IIT, since your exam centre location does not affect which IIT you can apply to. Choose based on practical travel logistics.

What happens after you register

Once you have submitted your application and paid the fee, the process moves forward in four stages: admit card, exam, result, and counselling.

Admit card: January 2027

Your admit card is released approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the exam at uceed.iitb.ac.in. It includes your exam centre, exam date, and reporting time. Download it as soon as it is available and carry a printed copy to the exam centre. The admit card also confirms your exam city allocation. If you notice any error on the admit card, contact the UCEED office immediately.

Exam: January 2027

UCEED is conducted in January, typically on a single day. Part A is a 3-hour computer-based test (MCQ, MSQ, and NAT questions). Part B is a 60-minute drawing test conducted immediately after Part A. Both parts take place at the same exam centre on the same day. You need your admit card and a valid photo ID to enter the exam hall.

Result: March 2027

The UCEED result is typically declared in March. Your result shows your Part A score, your rank, and your Part B marks. The UCEED rank list is based on Part A performance only. Part B marks are used separately by each institution for shortlisting. Visit the UCEED result page for a detailed explanation of how scores are used.

Counselling: March to April 2027

Counselling for IIT seats is conducted through JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Non-IIT institutions (IIITDM Jabalpur and others) conduct their own separate counselling processes. Visit the UCEED hub for a complete guide to counselling and seat allocation.
