GITAM University: School of Design

GITAM University was established in 1980 in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, making it one of the older private universities in South India. Starting as a technology institute, GITAM has grown into a comprehensive deemed university with NAAC A+ accreditation. The university now has three campuses: the flagship Visakhapatnam campus, a campus in Bengaluru, and a campus in Hyderabad. This multi-campus presence makes GITAM one of the more geographically accessible private universities for students from the Telugu-speaking states and Karnataka.

The design programme at GITAM covers communication design, industrial design, and interior architecture specialisations. The B.Des curriculum runs across eight semesters, combining studio-based practice with design theory, drawing, materials courses, and professional skills development. The Bengaluru and Hyderabad campuses offer students access to South India's two largest technology markets. Hyderabad has a very large technology sector (Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Infosys, TCS and many more), a growing startup ecosystem, and active design and media industries. Bengaluru is India's largest tech hub with the strongest demand for UX, product design, and digital communication designers. GITAM students who study at these campuses benefit from immediate proximity to these industry concentrations for internships and final placements.
