National Institute of Design, Jaipur

NID Jaipur is a campus of the National Institute of Design in Jaipur, Rajasthan, established in 2017 as part of the NID national expansion. The campus holds Institute of National Importance status under the NID Act 2014 and admits students through NID DAT across all specialisations.

NID Jaipur's most distinctive programmatic feature is the Jewellery and Lifestyle Accessory Design specialisation. Jaipur is one of the world's major centres for gemstone cutting, polishing, and export, and is home to a large and sophisticated jewellery manufacturing industry. The city's Johari Bazaar is a centuries-old hub of jewellery trade, and thousands of artisans work in gem and metal crafts throughout the city. NID Jaipur jewellery design students have access to this industry ecosystem in ways that campus-based programmes in other cities simply cannot match. Rajasthan's broader craft traditions provide additional research and practice opportunities for product and communication design students. Blue Pottery from Jaipur itself (a Turco-Persian craft tradition introduced in the 19th century), Bagru and Sanganer block printing, Bandhani tie-dye from the Kutch-Rajasthan borderlands, Kathputli puppet-making, Molela terracotta work, and miniature painting traditions collectively form one of India's richest craft landscapes. Design students at NID Jaipur can engage with these traditions through field visits, community projects, and material research.
