NID Silchar is a campus of the National Institute of Design established in Silchar, Assam. Located in the Barak Valley, it serves the culturally distinct South Assam region and neighbouring states. The Barak Valley has a predominantly Bengali-speaking population alongside tribal communities, creating a multicultural context quite different from the Brahmaputra Valley where NID Jorhat is located.
The campus offers B.Des programmes in Product Design, Textile and Apparel Design, and Communication Design. Textile design students at NID Silchar have access to the handloom traditions of the Barak Valley and the proximity to Manipuri weaving traditions, including the intricate Moirang Phee and Wangkhei Phee textiles. The tri-junction area where Assam meets Manipur and Mizoram is a zone of rich cultural exchange with diverse craft traditions across weaving, cane work, and indigenous textile arts.
NID Silchar admits students through the same NID DAT process as all other NID campuses and graduates benefit from NID's national placement network. The campus provides an accessible path to government-standard design education for students from South Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, and neighbouring areas.
