NIFT Varanasi is one of India's newest design education centres, established to preserve and advance the rich textile heritage of Varanasi. The city of Varanasi is synonymous with exquisite silk weaving, brocade work, and textile craftsmanship that date back centuries. The NIFT campus here operates at the intersection of heritage preservation and contemporary design innovation, making it a unique institution for students passionate about textile arts.

The primary programmes offered are B.Des in Fashion Design and B.Des in Textile Design, both of which leverage Varanasi's unparalleled access to textile artisans and traditional weaving communities. Unlike other NIFT campuses, Varanasi offers students the rare opportunity to learn directly from master weavers who have inherited their skills across generations. Admission to NIFT Varanasi is merit-based through the NIFT Entrance Exam, which includes the Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), and Situation Test for B.Des candidates. Approximately 100 total seats are available across B.Des and M.Des programmes, with around 75 seats dedicated to the B.Des Fashion Design and B.Des Textile Design combined.

The cost of education at NIFT Varanasi is notably affordable, with the B.Des programme fee ranging from approximately Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakhs for the entire 4-year course.
