About NIFT Bangalore
NIFT Bangalore is located on Sarjapur Road, one of Bangalore's major tech corridors, and was established in 1997. Ranked third in the NIFT network nationally, it occupies a distinctive position at the intersection of technology and fashion design. Bangalore's status as India's technology capital has created a vibrant D2C fashion economy over the past decade, with dozens of homegrown fashion brands built on digital distribution, and NIFT Bangalore students graduate directly into this ecosystem.
Karnataka has a strong textile heritage that coexists with the city's technology identity. Mysore silk, produced in the silk weaving clusters of Mysore and managed by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, is one of India's most prized silk varieties. Molakalmuru silk from Chitradurga, Ilkal cotton sarees from Bagalkot, and the craft traditions of Channapatna (lacquerware and artisanal toys) all exist within reach of the campus. Bangalore also has a growing sustainable fashion movement, with several independent designers and labels building practices rooted in Karnataka's artisanal heritage.
NIFT Bangalore offers 7 programmes: B.Des in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Accessory Design, and Textile Design, B.F.Tech in Apparel Production, and postgraduate M.Des and MFM. The B.Des intake is 180 seats, with a total campus strength of approximately 304 students per year. The Fashion Communication programme is particularly relevant in Bangalore given the city's strong advertising, media, and content creation industries, which supply steady demand for fashion stylists, art directors, and brand consultants.
The 4-year B.Des programme fee ranges from Rs 10 to 12 lakhs, in line with other established NIFT campuses. Bangalore's living costs are higher than smaller NIFT cities but lower than Delhi or Mumbai. Admission follows the standard NIFT process via NTA, with the GAT, CAT, and Situation Test determining merit rank. Applications open in November at exams.nta.nic.in/niftee.
Placement at NIFT Bangalore reflects the city's industry mix. Fashion Design graduates work with brands like Myntra, Flipkart Fashion, Max Fashion, and independent D2C labels. Fashion Communication alumni move into visual merchandising, brand strategy, and content production roles. The campus has strong internship relationships with Arvind Limited, the Bengaluru Fashion Week ecosystem, and the city's growing retail design sector. Many graduates also move into fashion-adjacent technology roles, working with fashion e-commerce companies and retail analytics firms.
NIFT Bangalore is the right choice for students who want to work in digital-first fashion, D2C brands, or fashion technology, while still receiving a rigorous design education grounded in South India's textile heritage. The campus combines the credibility of the NIFT brand with access to one of India's most dynamic and fast-growing fashion markets.
