About NIFT Jodhpur

NIFT Jodhpur was established in 1995 and is located in Rajasthan's Blue City, the second-largest city in one of India's most visually distinctive states. Jodhpur has been a centre of craft production, trade, and textile culture for centuries: its historical role as a Rajput court city means its craft traditions carry the influence of royal patronage, and the resulting textiles, leather goods, and lacquerwork reflect an aesthetic sensibility that continues to influence Indian and international design.

Rajasthan's textile traditions are among the most recognisable in India. Block printing from Bagru and Sanganer produces indigo, red, and natural-dye printed cottons that are exported globally. Bandhej tie-dye, produced throughout Rajasthan and particularly in Jodhpur and Jaipur, creates dotted and geometric patterns in silk and chiffon used in wedding wear. Leheriya and Mothda are tie-dye traditions specific to Rajasthan. Jodhpur's own leather goods industry exports footwear, bags, belts, and saddles to Europe and North America, while blue pottery from Jaipur (within driving range) and mirror embroidery from Thar communities add further layers to the regional craft map.

NIFT Jodhpur offers 6 programmes: B.Des in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design, and Accessory Design, B.F.Tech in Apparel Production, and M.Des. The B.Des intake is 140 seats per year. The Accessory Design programme has particular relevance given Jodhpur's leather goods industry, and the Textile Design programme benefits directly from proximity to block printing and tie-dye clusters.

The 4-year B.Des fee ranges from Rs 9 to 11 lakhs. Jodhpur's cost of living is significantly lower than Delhi or Mumbai, making the total education cost very manageable. Admission follows the NIFT entrance exam process via NTA, with GAT, CAT, and Situation Test. Applications open in November at exams.nta.nic.in/niftee.

NIFT Jodhpur graduates work in the export-oriented craft and fashion industries that Rajasthan specialises in: block-printed textile companies, fashion brands drawing on Rajasthani aesthetics, leather goods and footwear manufacturers, and the heritage craft retail sector. The campus has internship relationships with craft organisations working on artisan livelihood and export-market positioning for traditional Rajasthani crafts.

For students drawn to craft-rooted design, heritage textiles, and the intersection of Rajasthani visual culture with contemporary fashion, NIFT Jodhpur offers an education that is deeply contextual and practically grounded. Few NIFT campuses offer the combination of historical craft depth, accessible living costs, and a strong regional export industry that Jodhpur provides.
