NIFT Nava Raipur is India's newest National Institute of Fashion Technology campus, added to the NIFT network for the 2026 admissions cycle. Located in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, the modern planned capital of Chhattisgarh, the campus brings government-quality design education to Central India for the first time. Chhattisgarh has long been home to some of India's most distinctive craft traditions, and the campus is positioned to draw directly from this heritage as a foundation for contemporary design practice.

The craft context here is genuinely rare. Chhattisgarh is one of the few states where Gond painting traditions remain actively practised by indigenous communities, producing bold, intricate imagery rooted in a cosmological world view. Dhokra metal casting, one of India's oldest non-ferrous metal craft techniques dating back over 4,000 years, is concentrated in the Bastar and Rajnandgaon districts. Kosa silk, woven from the cocoons of the antheraea mylitta silkworm and unique to the Chhattisgarh region, produces a fabric with an unmistakable texture and golden sheen prized in Indian fashion. NIFT Nava Raipur offers three B.Des programmes for the 2026 cycle: Fashion Design, Textile Design, and Fashion Communication. Combined, these account for 102 B.Des seats, with a total institutional intake of 123 seats. The three programmes cover different but complementary design disciplines. Fashion Design focuses on garment construction, silhouette development, and collection building. Textile Design trains students in surface ornamentation, weave structures, and print design, particularly relevant given Chhattisgarh's textile heritage. Fashion Communication covers photography, styling, visual merchandising, and brand communication, preparing students for the marketing and editorial side of the industry.

Admission to NIFT Nava Raipur follows the standard NIFT process administered by NTA. Students appear for the General Ability Test (GAT), an online computer-based test covering quantitative ability, communication skills, English comprehension, and analytical thinking. The Creative Ability Test (CAT) is an offline pen-and-paper test assessing visual ability, creative thinking, and design sensitivity. B.Des shortlisted candidates then attend the Situation Test, a hands-on exercise where students create a 3D model using provided materials, assessed for concept, craftsmanship, and creative use of space. The total fee for a 4-year B.Des programme at NIFT Nava Raipur is approximately Rs 7 to 9 lakhs, making it among the more affordable options in the NIFT network.
