NATA result: what you need to know

NATA results are declared 4-6 weeks after each exam phase. The Council of Architecture (CoA) conducts NATA twice a year: Phase 1 approximately in April-May and Phase 2 approximately in July-August. Each phase has its own separate result declaration. You appear in one phase and receive one result for that phase.

The NATA result is your scorecard showing your total marks out of 200. Unlike UCEED or NIFT, NATA does not publish a national merit rank. You receive a raw score, and each B.Arch college independently decides how to use that score for their own admission process.

NATA 2027 result dates (approximate)

Phase Exam date Result declaration
Phase 1 2027 April to May 2027 May to June 2027 (4-6 weeks after exam)
Phase 2 2027 July to August 2027 August to September 2027 (4-6 weeks after exam)

Exact dates are published by CoA on nata.in before each phase. Check the official portal closer to the exam date for confirmed timelines.

How to check your NATA result

When the result is declared, CoA sends a notification to your registered email. You can also check directly on the portal:

Step 1: Go to nata.in and look for the "Result" or "Score Card" link on the homepage. This link is activated when results are declared.

Step 2: Log in using your NATA registration number and your password or date of birth.

Step 3: Your scorecard will appear on screen showing your marks in each section.

Step 4: Download the scorecard PDF. Keep multiple copies as this document is required for college counselling and admission.

Your scorecard contains: your name, registration number, roll number, exam date and phase, marks in Part A (Drawing), marks in Part B (PCM and Aptitude), total marks out of 200, and the percentile (where CoA provides it).

Understanding your NATA scorecard

Your NATA score is out of 200 total marks split across two parts:

Part A: Drawing (80 marks)

The drawing paper tests three distinct skills: composition and colour (imagination and colour sense), freehand sketching in black and white (observational drawing), and 3D spatial visualisation (understanding form and projection). This part is evaluated manually by faculty. No negative marking applies.

Part B: PCM and Aptitude (120 marks)

The computer-based test covers Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry at Class 11-12 level, and General Aptitude. No negative marking. Question types include MCQ, NAT (numerical answer type), and MSQ (multiple select).

Total and percentile

Your total is Part A plus Part B, giving a maximum of 200 marks. NATA does not assign a national rank. Some years CoA publishes a percentile alongside the raw score; check your scorecard for this. The raw score is what colleges use for their admission formula.

What score means what: a general guide

These are general benchmarks based on observed patterns across B.Arch college admissions. Exact requirements vary by institution, state, and year.

Score range (out of 200) General guidance
150 and above Highly competitive for most good private colleges (CEPT, Manipal, SRM)
130 to 150 Comfortable for many good private and some government colleges
110 to 130 Reasonable for state government colleges and moderately selective private colleges
90 to 110 Limited options; options exist at regional and less selective colleges
Below 90 Very few options; strongly consider appearing for the other phase or retaking next year

Important: these are not official cutoffs. Each college publishes its own minimum NATA score requirement. Use the ShapeVerse B.Arch college directory to check specific college cutoffs.

NATA score validity

Your NATA score is valid for two years from the date of result declaration. A score from NATA Phase 1 2027 (result declared June 2027) remains valid through June 2029 for college admissions. This two-year window gives you flexibility if you want to defer admissions or reappear for a higher score in the next cycle.

Most students use their NATA score in the same academic year for counselling. The two-year validity is primarily useful for students who plan to gap-year or take the exam while in Class 12 and enrol in Class 12+1 year later.

After the result: what to do

Getting your NATA result is not the end. Here is what happens next:

Research colleges: Use the ShapeVerse college directory to find B.Arch colleges that accept your score range. Check each college's minimum NATA requirement and their merit formula.

Check state counselling portals: Most states have a centralised counselling process for B.Arch admissions. Key state portals include UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh), CAP (Maharashtra), and COMEDK (Karnataka). Register early; deadlines are often within weeks of result declaration.

Contact colleges directly: Many private colleges have their own separate admission process alongside state counselling. Email or call the admissions offices of your target colleges to understand their process, merit formula, and timeline.

Prepare your documents: You will need Class 12 marksheets, NATA scorecard, identity proof, domicile proof (for state quota seats), caste certificate if applicable, and recent photographs. Organise these before counselling begins.

State counselling overview

B.Arch admissions are partially managed through state-level centralised counselling processes. Each state has different timelines and merit calculation formulas.

Maharashtra

The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) manages B.Arch admissions at Maharashtra government and aided colleges. CAP typically uses NATA score combined with Class 12 marks (PCM). Private colleges in Maharashtra participate through a separate process.

Uttar Pradesh

UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling) manages B.Arch counselling across UP. Register on the UPTAC portal after result declaration. UPTAC creates a merit list using a state-specific formula.

Karnataka

COMEDK conducts admissions for private B.Arch colleges in Karnataka. Government colleges in Karnataka use the KEA (Karnataka Examination Authority) process for B.Arch admissions using NATA.

Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat

These states have their own state counselling bodies. Cutoff scores in these states are generally lower than Maharashtra or Delhi-NCR due to a larger number of seats relative to competitive applicants.

Delhi-NCR (excluding SPA Delhi)

Private B.Arch colleges in Delhi-NCR have their own admissions and use NATA. Important clarification: SPA Delhi (School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi) does NOT accept NATA. SPA Delhi uses JEE Main Paper 2 only. This is one of the most commonly misunderstood facts in B.Arch admissions.

Can you retake NATA?

Yes. NATA can be retaken in the following ways:

Within the same year: If you appeared for Phase 1 and are unhappy with your score, you cannot retake Phase 1. But if you have not appeared for Phase 2 yet, you may appear for Phase 2 of the same year. You are allowed only one phase per year.

Next year: You can appear for NATA the following year (Phase 1 or Phase 2). The two-year score validity means your better score from either year can be used for admissions during the validity window.

Plan your retake strategy based on your score gap and target colleges. If you scored 118 and your target college requires 130, a retake is a reasonable path. If you scored 105 and are targeting highly selective colleges, focus on intensive preparation before retaking.

SPA Delhi does not accept NATA

School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi uses JEE Main Paper 2, not NATA. If SPA Delhi is your target institution, your NATA score cannot be used there. See the JEE Paper 2 guide for the correct process.

Frequently asked questions

+ When will NATA 2027 result be declared?

NATA 2027 Phase 1 result is expected 4-6 weeks after the Phase 1 exam, approximately May or June 2027. Phase 2 result is expected in August or September 2027, again 4-6 weeks after the Phase 2 exam date. Exact dates are published by the Council of Architecture on nata.in as the exam cycle progresses. There is no fixed calendar date announced far in advance.

+ How is the NATA scorecard downloaded?

Visit nata.in and click the Result or Score Card link once results are declared. Log in using your NATA registration number and password or date of birth. Your scorecard will be displayed on screen. Click the download option to save the PDF. Keep a printed copy for counselling and college admission. If you lose the digital file, the scorecard can typically be re-downloaded from the same portal during the result period.

+ Does NATA give a rank or just a score?

NATA gives only a raw score out of 200. There is no national merit rank or percentile rank published by the Council of Architecture. Each college receives your NATA score and creates its own merit list using its own formula (typically NATA score weighted with Class 12 marks). This is different from exams like UCEED or NIFT where a national rank is published.

+ What is a good NATA score?

A score of 140 or above out of 200 is considered strong and makes you competitive for most good B.Arch colleges. Scores between 120 and 140 are moderate and comfortable for state-level government colleges and many private colleges. Scores between 100 and 120 are on the lower side and may restrict your choices to less selective colleges. Below 100 is considered weak for college admission; retaking NATA (Phase 2 in the same year, or next year) is worth considering. These are general benchmarks, not official cutoffs.

+ What if I lost my NATA scorecard?

If you lose your NATA scorecard PDF, you can re-download it from nata.in using your registration number and credentials during the result period. After the result portal closes, contact the Council of Architecture helpline or email to request a duplicate scorecard. Many colleges accept a printout of the online result page as interim proof during counselling.

+ Is NATA scorecard required for admission or just the score?

Most colleges ask for the official NATA scorecard as part of the document submission process during counselling or admission. Some state counselling portals (like UPTAC for Uttar Pradesh) require you to upload the scorecard during online registration. Keep the PDF ready and take multiple printouts before attending any counselling session.

+ Can my NATA score be challenged or re-evaluated?

The Council of Architecture releases official answer keys after the Part B exam. If you believe a specific question has an incorrect key, you may raise an objection through the official process during the challenge window. Part A drawing scores are evaluated by faculty and are not subject to individual challenge. Contact nata.in during the challenge window period for the specific process and fees.

+ What happens if two candidates score the same marks in NATA?

NATA does not publish a national rank so tie-breaking at the NATA level is not publicly defined. At the college level, when two students present the same NATA score during counselling, most colleges use Class 12 marks as the tiebreaker. Some state counselling portals have additional tiebreaker rules (age, subject-specific Class 12 marks). Check your target college or state counselling body for their specific tiebreaker policy.
